The CABI Academy comprises three core sets of products:
- Skills Framework for Agriculture
Access to our certifications and curriculum is through an annual subscription (for organisations and countries) or through a per-item payment (for individuals).
Skills Framework for Agriculture
We are working with partners from across the agriculture community to create a globally applicable skills framework, initially for extension service providers, plant doctors, agro-dealers and others who advise smallholder farmers.
This framework provides a foundational vocabulary for designing training programmes, creating certifications, doing training needs analysis, writing job descriptions and visualising career pathways.
Comprehensive: Over 200 skills identified, described and categorised by job role, certification level and topic
Open: Free to use for non-commercial purposes.

Our globally applicable certifications allow individuals to demonstrate their capabilities against the skills framework.
Each certificate covers a particular set of skills, at one of three levels:
This is designed for people at an early stage in a particular role or a particular skills category, who will be working under supervision.
Individuals are assessed against their ability to find or recall information that is provided in the course materials.
This is designed for people who are, or who wish to be, working independently in a role or within a certain category of skills.
Individuals are assessed against their ability to apply information from the course materials in real-life scenarios.
This is designed for people who are, or who wish to be, providing leadership in a role or within a certain category of skills.
Individuals are assessed against their ability to reflect on their practice in the light of current research and practice.
We also offer a range of qualifications through our university partners, such as Masters level qualifications with Neuchâtel University.
Our growing curriculum is focussed on providing skills-based training for those who advise smallholder farmers.
Each programme is split into modules, which can be taken individually or put together to support a journey towards certification.
We use a supported self-study model, with help from our 24 hour support team.
All our courses work work well on mobile phones as well as full-sized screens.
They even work offline via the Moodle Mobile app.
We offer the courses in multiple languages, using a hybrid approach to translation. The first pass is done using Google Translate. Then, any issues encountered are dealt with using human translators.
